Student discount codes
Give a verified student 10% off memberships and class packs with a one-person Stripe promotion code.
Studios sometimes verify a student by phone, email, or in person, then give that person a code. This is handled case by case. There is no automatic student check in the app.
Checkout for recurring memberships and class packs can show Stripe’s “Add promotion code” field when App & Site → Allow promo codes at checkout is on. Drop-ins, private sessions, late-cancel fees, and no-show fees do not accept a code.
Student charges use the studio’s own Stripe account under Settings → Integrations. They are not created on the Fitness Class Studio platform account and they do not use Stripe Connect. Create coupons and promotion codes in that same studio Stripe Dashboard. A code from a different Stripe account will not work.
Create a 10% coupon
In the studio Stripe Dashboard:
- Open Product catalog → Coupons (or Products → Coupons) → New.
- Percent off: 10.
- Duration: Forever so the 10% keeps applying every monthly membership invoice.
- Optionally limit the coupon to your membership (and class pack) products. Do this if the studio passes card processing fees to the student. A percent-off coupon otherwise applies to every Checkout line, including the processing-fee line.
Once vs Repeating vs Forever
| Duration | What it does |
|---|---|
| Once | Takes 10% off the first charge only (first month, or a one-time pack). Later membership months are full price. |
| Repeating | Takes 10% off for a fixed number of months you choose, then the subscription returns to full price. |
| Forever | Takes 10% off this first charge and every renewal until you remove the discount from the subscription. Use this for an ongoing student rate. |
Founding Unlimited is a separate $179 price. 10% off that price is $161.10. That is allowed.
Stripe Checkout accepts one promotion code per session. Codes cannot stack.
Create one promotion code per student
Still in the studio Stripe Dashboard, open the coupon → Promotion codes → create a code such as STUDENT-JANE.
Recommended limits:
- Max redemptions: 1 so the code cannot be shared.
- Optionally first-time order only, restrict to that student’s Stripe customer, or set an expiry.
One code per student beats a shared STUDENT10 code because a shared code leaks in group chats and cannot be turned off for one person without turning it off for everyone.
Give the student the code after you have verified them.
How the student uses it
- They sign in on the public studio and buy a membership or class pack.
- Stripe Checkout shows Add promotion code.
- They enter the code (for example
STUDENT-JANE) and pay the discounted amount.
Revoke a code
- To stop a unused code: open the promotion code in Stripe and deactivate it. It cannot be entered at Checkout.
- To end a discount already on a membership: open the subscription in the studio Stripe Dashboard and remove the coupon / discount. Deactivating the code does not by itself remove an existing subscription discount.
Processing fees
If the studio passes Stripe card fees to the student, Checkout adds a separate Card processing fee line. That fee is calculated from the listed package price before a promo code is typed. Stripe Checkout does not shrink the fee after the discount.
Percent-off coupons apply to all eligible line items unless you limit the coupon to membership/pack products. Restrict the coupon that way so the processing-fee line stays full price.
Staff screens
Credits still grant from the paid invoice even when the student paid less. The client Membership tab shows plan and Stripe status; it does not yet show the coupon. Look in the studio Stripe Dashboard (or Billing portal) for the discount until a staff discount line is added.
A paid membership or pack still grants the usual credits even when the student paid less with a code. The client Membership tab does not yet list the coupon; use the studio Stripe Dashboard (or Billing portal) for that.
